The film starts with a girl called Carter Mason (Selena Gomez) who is the daughter of Major Mason. She is always bullied by Brooke and Chelsea at her school. At Costa Luna, when Princess Rosalinda Maria Montoya Fiore (Demi Lovato), is about to become queen of her country, but the country is invaded by General Magnus Kane (Johnny Ray) Rosalinda runs away with Mason but she wanted to stay. Queen Sophia (Sully Diaz) gave her a necklace to Rosalinda to remember her.

She is put into the Princess Protection Program, a secret organization funded by royal families that looks after endangered princesses. Rosalinda is taken under the wing of Major Mason (Tom Verica), an agent in the PPP from rural Louisiana. While going to Louisana, she meets his daughter, Carter who works at the local bait shop.

Carter wonders what is she doing here and who is she. Rosalinda replies to her I’m Rosie Gonzalez. She asks her dad, why is she here and he said She needs to stay here for a while. Carter dreams of going to the school dance with her crush, Donny (Robert Adamson), the school hottie.

In becoming a normal teenager, Rosie soon becomes popular at school; which Carter must learn to handle. Although through the ups and downs, the two form a tight bond and become close friends, with Carter teaching Rosie to become a normal American girl, and Rosie helping Carter to find her inner princess.

Carter realizes what a jerk Donny is and goes to the dance with Ed (Nicholas Braun), who is her best friend, he had a crush on her for a long time.

Magnus comes to capture Rosalinda.

Mr. Eleglante tricked Magnus that Rosalinda wil be wearing Caribbean blue for her skin colour, which Carter will be wearing.Rosie becomes Homecoming Queen at the school and thanks Carter for her help but she isn’t there.

Carter follows Magnus Kane but Rosalinda goes up to follow her. Carter says What are you doing here,the plan is ruined! Major Mason comes out of the helicopter, alongside with Helen.

After Magnus was captured, Rosie becomes Queen of Costa Luna in the end and Carter and Ed cheer, “Long Live Queen Rosie!” Queen Sophia says the same but in Spanish and Rosie walks down the aisle with Carter proud and smiling.
